This course provides instruction on the basic method of Crime Scene Search to include search patterns, and the collection and preservation of physical evidence from the crime scene to the court room. Emphasis is placed on practical exercises such as casting of shoe print and tire impressions in soil, as well as, difficult environments such as snow, immersion in water, and recovery of two dimensional impressions from hard surfaces. Particular emphasis is given to the collection, preservation and submission of microscopic and trace evidence to the crime laboratory. Common Evidence Collection Faults are identified and resolved. Training is provided in the Administration and Management of Crime Scenes. Students are required to participate in a Mock Crime Scene Scenario and arrive at a successful resolution to demonstrate their acquisition of the material provided in this course.
Prerequisite: It is recommended that the Law Enforcement Officer attend the Basic and Advanced Fingerprint Classification Course and Latent Fingerprint Recovery Techniques Course prior to attending this course, inasmuch as those subjects, due to the amount of information contained in them, are not covered in this course.
