Diane W. Bodie

Diane W. Bodie is an experienced forensic professional and teacher.  She began her career in fingerprint classification and comparison working in the FBI Identification Division as a fingerprint examiner, and in 1979 moved to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division in a similar capacity. She has continued to work at that agency, rising through the fingerprint and records area and has trained numerous department employees in fingerprint classification and comparison. Her last assignment in that department included the day-to-day operation and management of the SCAFIS (South Carolina Automated Fingerprint Identification System) receiving, preparing and conducting AFIS examinations on case evidence.

In 1998, Diane was promoted to the position of Special Agent assigned to the latent Print/Crime Scene Department. Her duties include the examination of physical evidence as it relates to fingerprints, footwear, tire tread, blood pattern analysis, and other related areas. She is also responsible for the collection and preservation of physical evidence and for assisting local, state, and federal law enforcement in crime scene investigations as required.  As with all sworn personnel, she continues to enforce state law and local ordinances, arrest criminal suspects, serve as field training officer for new recruits and testify in court proceedings.

In 1991 she became an Adjunct Professor at the University of Tennessee’s National Forensic Academy, the internationally renowned institution made famous as “The Body Farm” in author Patricia Cornwell’s popular series of Kay Scarpetta novels.

Her professional organization affiliations include the International Association for Identification (IAI); South Carolina Chapter International Association for Identification (SCIAI) 1996 where she currently serves as Secretary- Treasurer; South Carolina Law Enforcement Officer’s Association (SCLEOA); and the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) Disaster Mortuary Response Team Region IV (1998 – 1999).

Diane holds a Bachelor of Science degree (magna cum laude) from Southern Wesleyan University, as well as many certificates in areas related to forensics too numerous to mention here.
