Fingerprinting / Palm printing Techniques

This one day (eight (8) hour) course will provide the law enforcement officer the ability to acquire both inked and electronic finger print and palm print images. In addition to capturing the images the officer will be introduced to the eight (8) types of finger prints and their necessary characteristics which should be included prior to submission of the finger print/palm print record to a centralized data base.

The officer will also be provided with the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), The Interstate Identification Index (III) and the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) classifications for each finger print type. This will enable the officer to decipher these classifications, which are reflected on NCIC and III printouts (samples will be provided), in order that they can make probable cause identifications in effecting arrests.

Proper methods in acquiring both finger print and palm print impressions will be demonstrated to the officers, after which they will demonstrate, through practical application, the proper methods for acquiring these impressions.

Instructor: Charles J. Walsh – Special Agent, FBI (Retired)
