Vincent J. Byron retired as a Lieutenant from the Derry New Hampshire police department after twenty-nine plus years of service. Vince was promoted to sergeant in 1981 and in 1985 was moved to Investigative Services where he remained until his promotion to Lieutenant in 2000. For fifteen-years Vince was responsible for the overall investigative operation of the police department. He has been directly involved in countless criminal investigations to include the infamous “Pame Smart” murder case. Vin specialized in crime scene reconstruction and blood stain pattern analysis. He has consulted on numerous cases involving blood spatter patterns and reconstruction of crime scenes based on blood stain pattern analysis. Vin developed and taught a multi-day blood spatter analysis course for New Hampshire Standards and Training. In addition to the multi-day classes, Vin has taught blood spatter as an adjunct to crime scene and homicide classes. Several of Vin’s reconstruction have been presented for peer-review and one homicide case was reviewed by Dr. Henry Lee.
When promoted to Lieutenant, Vin left detectives and was assigned to Administrative Services Bureau as the Bureau Commander. Although Vince’s duties changed considerably with the move, he managed to continue to support the investigative component of the police department. In 2005, Vince was assigned as a technical partner to the Attorney General’s New Hampshire Cyber Crime Initiative (NHCCI). Lt. Byron participated in the development of several Computer Crime classes and taught Cyber Crime Fundamentals and NH’s Remote Case Reviewer (FTK) System. In 2006, Vince was nominated as NHCCI’s, Instructor of the Year and Investigator of the Year.
